Cremation, burial, other? What's the greenest way to dispose of your remains when you die? I always thought
Q. cremation was the way to go but some of my friends just informed me that it wastes resources and pollutes the air. This is serioius. One of my friends is expecting to die soon and he wants his remains dealt with inthe most ecologically friendly manner possible.

A. I have heard that the best way would be to request an immediate disposal and use cremation. They do not have to embalm the body and it is cremated in a cardboard box that is burned at something like 2200 degrees in less than 24 hours. There is fuel used to fire the furnace but it is a very quick process and there is no embalming fluid, finished wood caskets, concrete vaults, backhoe fuel, and the best part is that it is much less expensive. The ashes can be safely disposed of anywhere, even released into the wind. It is illegal in most states to bury human remains anywhere but in a state licensed cemetery. But cremated ashes can go anywhere. they have been rendered bio-neutral.
