From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Alabama ( / ˌ æ l ə ˈ b æ m ə /) is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States of America. It is bordered by Tennessee to the north, Georgia to the east, Florida and the Gulf of Mexico to the south, and Mississippi to the west. Alabama ranks 30th in total land area and ranks second in the size of its inland waterways. The state ranks 23rd in population with almost 4.6 million residents in 2006. From the American Civil War until World War II, Alabama, like many Southern states, suffered economic hardship, in part because of continued dependence on agriculture. Despite the growth of major industries and urban centers, white rural interests dominated the state legislature until the 1960s, while urban interests and African Americans were under-represented. Following World War II, Alabama experienced growth as the economy of the state transitioned from agriculture to diversified interests in heavy manufacturing, mineral extraction, education, and technology. In addition, the establishment or expansion of multiple military installations, primarily those of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, added to state jobs. Alabama is unofficially nicknamed the Yellowhammer State, after the state bird. Alabama is also known as the "Heart of Dixie". The state tree is the Longleaf Pine, the state flower is the Camellia. The capital of Alabama is Montgomery. The largest city by population is Birmingham. The largest city by total land area is Huntsville. The oldest city is Mobile, founded by French colonists. GNU Free Documentation License what are the best conditions for a mini banana plant in alabama? Q. i live in alabama and have recently obtained 5 miniature banana plants. they range from 1 inch tall to 2.5 feet tall. I am unsure whether or not to put them each in a pot so they can come indoors for winter or if i should put them in the ground. i understand that they get rather tall and that they need a lot of nutrients and sun but i am most concerned with the planting or potting issue. If they need to be in a pot, what size? Asked by derek - Mon Jul 7 11:03:33 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Derek I too live in Lower Alabama,,, I have several banana trees as part of my outside landscape. They do very well here, they love sunny spots. The trees wither in the winter but, they have several spouts from the same root that grows back. Now due to our climate I wouldn't expect the fruit to mature enough to eat. Q. Just wondering where on my person is it legal for me to conceal my weapon in the state of Alabama? Does Alabama allow ankle holsters? What other holsters are allowed? Asked by colenickel - Fri Apr 6 00:20:32 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. A weapon is concealed when it cannot be seen on your person or, if you are in a vehicle, in your vehicle. A pistol in a holster worn on a belt in plain view is not concealed. A pistol lying on the passenger seat of your car is not concealed. You would still need a permit to carry, however.
