Canada ( / ˈ k æ n ə d ə /) is a country occupying most of northern North America, extending from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west and northward into the Arctic Ocean. It is the world's second largest country by total area. Canada's common border with the United States to the south and northwest is the longest in the world. The land occupied by Canada was inhabited for millennia by various groups of Aboriginal peoples. Beginning in the late 15th century, British and French expeditions explored, and later settled, along the Atlantic coast. France ceded nearly all of its colonies in North America in 1763 after the Seven Years' War. In 1867, with the union of three British North American colonies through Confederation, Canada was formed as a federal dominion of four provinces. This began an accretion of provinces and territories and a process of increasing autonomy from the United Kingdom. This widening autonomy was highlighted by the Statute of Westminster of 1931 and culminated in the Canada Act of 1982, which severed the vestiges of legal dependence on the British parliament. A federation consisting of ten provinces and three territories, Canada is governed as a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy with Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state. It is a bilingual nation with both English and French as official languages at the federal level. One of the world's highly developed countries, Canada has a diversified economy that is reliant upon its abundant natural resources and upon trade—particularly with the United States, with which Canada has had a long and complex relationship. It is a member of the G8, G-20, NATO, OECD, WTO, Commonwealth, Francophonie, OAS, APEC, and UN. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License canada???? Q. me and my boyfriend plan on moving into canada (mississauga/toronto area), permanently. but i was wondering what the laws are to become a citizen and to basically immigrate into canada and out of the u.s.. we also need to know if there is also a process for taking animals. i moved there when i was little and it was a fairly difficult process to get ourselves and pets there. so yeah. help? Asked by haymegrez - Mon Oct 8 20:25:24 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. www.cic.gc.ca is the immigration web site. Basically you have to have something to offer Canada, and the one of you that has the most to offer (points by education, skill, training, languages) should be the primary applicant for permanent resident status, if you can claim common-law spouse. Animals really aren't much of a problem as long as you have proof of their vaccination history. It is much more complicated for people but the web site details the things you must do and lets you add up your points and see if you will likely be accepted. Answered by hanora - Mon Oct 8 22:52:57 2007 What do you think about Canada trying to get the US to change environmental laws so they can sell more oil? Q. The US currenlty refuses to buy oil from canada from any new sites. The US will only buy oil from old sites. But canada wants to drill in new sites, and they want the US to buy it. Canadian lobbyists are all over Washignton trying to get the law changed. What do you think of this. Why do you think the media does't cover it. And do you think it's okay for canada to do this because it's canada. How would you feel if Americans did this? Asked by Michael l - Tue Jul 14 18:01:16 2009 - - 13 Answers - 1 Comments A. ok :T J , first of all we are NOT occupying Haiti, we don't have anything to do with Haiti except that our governor general is from there. Also, we are not interested in "trashing" the U.S. . Why don't you get your facts straight, you narrow-minded bigot. In regards to the question, Canada is not imposing laws to sell more or less oil. I'm sure that if we did change the laws it wouldn't matter. Answered by unknown - Fri Jul 17 05:46:20 2009 What does canada customs ask you to prove?
Q. I am going to canada the day after tomarrow, I want to know if I have to prove anything other than my citizenship of the U.S. ? Do I have to prove that I have sufficient funds, or that I'm coming back to the U.S because I don't have a round trip ticket, only a one way. I have relatives in Seatle, so I was probably going to get picked up by them after about 3 4 months in canada. I called this number it should be canada customs and she said that I won't need to prove sufficent funds or that I'm coming back as long as I'm a U.S. Citizen. Traveling then driving home should not be an issue. If it is for work or school make sure you have the necessary paperwork if any additional approvals may be necessary., such as a work or educational visa.
