While this is usually used for keeping bodies for up to several weeks, it does not prevent decomposition, which continues at a slower rate than at room temperature. I am interested in going to school for mortuary science and am currently taking prerequiste courses to get into the program at the University of Minnesota and I would like to work in the industry before I officially begin to see if I truely like it and was wondering how to go about getting an entry-level job at a funeral home (as say an office assistant or something) or to volunteer and I've looked in all the newspapers in the area and on all job searching websites and I never see anything in this field. Does anyone know where I may find entry-level job postings in a funeral home or the like in MN or any ideas as to how to go about finding a job or volunteer opprotunity in this area. Thanks! After you get your GED/diploma you go to different universities that offer mortuary science degrees and apply for entrance to those universities. If they turn you down, and you get rejection letters, then you go to a local community college and take general basic courses and make very good grades, and then apply again to the university you want to go to as a transfer student. . It is really so much easier to be admitted as a transfer student (if your grades at your community college are good grades, that is). I don't know why more people don't try this. Then once you are admitted to a school you go to the financial aid department of that school and ask to apply for any grants or scholarships that could help you pay for school.
