From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Religion is the belief in and worship of a god or gods, or in general a set of beliefs explaining the existence of and giving meaning to the universe, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. Aspects of religion include narrative, symbolism, beliefs, and practices that are supposed to give meaning to the practitioner's experiences of life. Whether the meaning centers on a deity or deities, or an ultimate truth, religion is commonly identified by the practitioner's prayer, ritual, meditation, music and art, among other things, and is often interwoven with society and politics. It may focus on specific supernatural, metaphysical, and moral claims about reality (the cosmos and human nature) which may yield a set of religious laws and ethics and a particular lifestyle. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and religious experience. The development of religion has taken many forms in various cultures, with continental differences. The term "religion" refers both to the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction. "Religion" is sometimes used interchangeably with "faith" or "belief system", but it is more socially defined than personal convictions, and it entails specific behaviors, respectively. Religion is often described as a communal system for the coherence of belief focusing on a system of thought, unseen being, person, or object, that is considered to be supernatural, sacred, divine, or of the highest truth. Moral codes, practices, values, institutions, tradition, rituals, and scriptures are often traditionally associated with the core belief, and these may have some overlap with concepts in secular philosophy. Religion is also often described as a "way of life" or a life stance. From Wikipedia under the

While religions explain how you can get to God through following man made traditions, works, karma, etc. God says receive My forgiveness. Man could not keep the law and get into heaven by his own works, so God became flesh and did what we could not, live a sinless life and pay the price of our sins. God doesn't want a religion, He wants a relationship with you. Don't mistake all the man made traditions and denomination styles for the real thing, a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. If you look to other people, you will be dissapointed but if you follow Jesus and His Word, you will never be let down. I am doing a paper on the difference between religion between Athens in the 5th century and Florence in the 15th century. I know that gods were really important but I need more details about Athens' religion in this century. Asked by westcivhistory - Mon May 12 16:38:18 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. Athens was part of the Roman Empire in the 5th century, and this was the century that Rome fell. Rome was Christian and had been since the time of the Emporer Constantine in the 4th century. When Rome fell, the eastern portion of the empire, which included Greece, became the Eastern Roman Empire, and its religion was Christianity. This empire eventually became known as the Byzantine empire. The type of Christianity that evolved there is known as Orthodox Christianity. this is essentiaslly the same religion practiced in Greece today. In the west, Catholicism developed, although it was a pretty weak institution until the 11th century. The 'Greek' church of the east and the 'Latin' church of the west hated each other. Hope that helps. [cont.] Answered by Year of the Dragon - Mon May 12 17:19:06 2008 How would your religion or faith system be effected by the discovery of life on other planets?
Q. Suppose we confirmed that there is life elsewhere in the Universe, other than on planet Earth... How would your faith system respond to this information? Does your religion presuppose that we are alone in the Universe? And how would your faith system or religion be effected or changed by such a discovery?
