There are a lot of other characters that can be displayed. In fact they could be displayed back in the days of MS-DOS. You can still get them at the command prompt. You do NOT need any additional software or configuration changes to access some of these. The secret is these characters are already part of the ASCII set you already use, but in order for them to display, you have to enter the decimal code for it. Entering the code for it is a trick that most people do not know. you have to hold in one of the [ALT] keys and enter the three digit code using the numeric keypad. You can NOT use the number keys at the top of the keyboard. Hold in the [ALT] key, type the three digit code, then release the [ALT] key and your character will show up.
